4 December marked the first ever on-campus action at AUPP to support the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign! The students of the Fall Semester 2017 Global Affairs: Gender and Development, taught by Professor Hedy Tripp, class organized a message writing campaign and engaged with the student body, faculty, and staff to promote conversations about how we can all end gender-based violence and end all violence against women and girls. The student organizers of the event hope to communicate their recommendations from this event to the student government to build momentum for a yearly on-campus action to support the campaign. Congratulations to the students for a successful campaign! AUPP is proud to participate in #16Days.
16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is a global campaign to raise awareness and organize community action against gender-based violence. In 1991 activists at the Women’s Global Leadership Institute organized the first 16 Days campaign, and every year from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day, organizations around the world take action in their communities to put a stop to gender-based violence. One of this year’s powerful themes is expressed in the hashtags #LeaveNoOneBehind #EndViolenceagainstWomenandGirls. An important goal of this year’s campaign is to organize actions to end gender-based violence happening in our educational systems.
