Dr. Stan McGahey is Chair and Professor of Tourism and Hospitality Management at AUPP.  He earned his Ph.D. in International Tourism from Hanyang University in Korea where he lived for ten years.  Dr. McGahey has traveled in over 100 countries and has worked and consulted in many of them, including for UNDP in China, ILO in Indonesia, RTI International in Iraq, the Korea National Tourism Corporation, the American Embassy in Seoul, and the Tourism Committee of the Guam Legislature.  He has taught international tourism for over 30 years in nine countries, including three Fulbright assignments in Macedonia, Uzbekistan, and Kosovo. Dr. McGahey has written several books and hundreds of travel trade articles, and he has created and co-hosted two radio shows on the tourism industry.  His works have been published in the Wall Street Journal and the London Economist Intelligence Unit, and he has been interviewed by CNN International. Dr. McGahey has also created two series of narrated PPT presentations posted on YouTube that have been seen by viewers from more than 190 countries, although they are still a work in progress.  They are “Demystifying Tourism” (6-10 minutes on various tourism industry topics), and “Thoughtful Traveling” (90 seconds on various tourism quotes and thoughts regarding travel motivations and experiences).  He has been a member of the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s Panel of Tourism Experts since 2004 and contributes to the UNWTO Tourism Barometer three times per year.  His goal as a professor is to help students identify and pursue their career goals.  He and his wife, Yuni, enjoy hiking in the countryside, exploring historic town centers and ethnic neighborhoods, and attending festivals and events.
