Dr. Kat Smith joined AUPP in the Spring of 2022 as an Associate Professor of Law. She has been teaching at the collegiate level for more than 15 years. Dr. Smith has also worked for more than a decade in research and public policy. She worked as a criminologist and key researcher on a statewide juvenile justice system evaluation in Florida. She worked as a policy analyst in Utah and Michigan on local, state, and federal policy issues – including TANF, Food Support, and other government aid programs, Unemployment Compensation Benefits, Housing and Homelessness, and Health Care. She has served on the Michigan Interagency Council on Homelessness, The Michigan Coalition for Children and Families, the Utah State Workforce Investment Board, and Utah’s Family Investment Coalition.

She served as a judicial law clerk for both the Minnesota State Courts and the Minnesota Court of Appeals and was an AmeriCorps Attorney. Prior to coming to Cambodia, she spent 4 years teaching at universities in China. She is also a certified yoga teacher and loves practicing and teaching yoga, mindfulness, and meditation.
