Dr. Marc Piñol Rovira is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences, where he contributes to the International Relations and General Education programs. With a PhD in Politics from the University of Bristol and a master’s degree in East Asian Studies from the University of Leeds in the UK, he brings a strong interdisciplinary background and a decade of regional experience to the classroom and beyond.
His research explores how digital technologies are reshaping societies across Southeast Asia and the broader Asia-Pacific. Focusing on the intersection of governance and development, Dr Piñol Rovira has conducted extensive research on social media and civic engagement, as well as technology-facilitated gender-based violence. His current work continues to explore how digital infrastructures, including artificial intelligence, are transforming social development across the region.
In the classroom, he brings energy, empathy, and a student-centred approach. He designs interactive, research-informed learning experiences that connect theory with practice, using real-world case studies to help students discover their passions while preparing them for the job market.
Dr. Piñol Rovira has taught International Relations at the University of Bristol and Buckinghamshire New University in the UK, as well as at universities in Cambodia and Thailand. Beyond academia, he has worked with leading regional think tanks in the region such as the Cambodian Center for Cooperation and Peace and Asia Centre, where he has led multi-country projects.
