Dr. Kimsy Tor is an Assistant Professor in the School of Digital Technologies at American University of Phnom Penh (AUPP). She is passionate in teaching Math and Code for Data Science to newcomers. She received a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science from Manhattan College, United States in 2015, an M.S. from Sorbonne University, France in 2017 and a Ph.D. in Algorithms design from Telecom Paris in 2021. Growing up, Dr. Kimsy is fluent in 3 languages, Khmer, English and French and has traveled the world since a teenager.
Her research interests lie in the design of algorithms both in theory and practice. Her first algorithm encounter is the PageRank algorithm studied in her College linear algebra class. PageRank algorithm is the backbone of the Google Search Engine that we use in our everyday life. It works by ranking web pages in their search engine results by evaluating the number and quality of links to a page. Dr. Kimsy is also passionate in solving the problems of aging and cancer. She has published a research work in the Journal of Mathematical Biology (2018) concerning how telomeres, the end of chromosomes influence how a person age.
Dr. Kimsy is committed to help developing digital talents in Cambodia through teaching and mentoring students as well as the Cambodian public.
