Amani Nelson, a sophomore student majoring in Information Technology Management (ITM), has shared her insights on why ITM is her choice at AUPP. Read about her interview below:
1. Why did you choose to major in ITM?
I chose to major in ITM because I wanted to keep learning more about computer systems and broaden my horizons by learning about management. Another reason I picked ITM is that it’s a dual-degree program. In the future, I want to be able to work abroad because I love traveling, and I think ITM is valuable since it has taught me about global practices in technology.
2. Tell us more about your AUPP academic experience.
Since freshman year, I’ve found that in every class, I always learn something new that I can use in another class later. For example, I learned about for-loops in Python, and it is a concept I apply to Java and C++. Also, it has been vital for me to know the people in my classes since this makes doing group projects and homework more manageable. Overall, the most challenging part has been learning how to schedule my time so that I have enough rest and still have fun on the weekends.
3. What is your recommendation/advice for recent high school graduates who want to choose ITM?
Be open to experiencing many challenges and know that it’s ok to not know the answers immediately; the most important part is that you try your best to solve problems first before asking for help.
4. How does AUPP help you to succeed?
I have great classmates in ITM who help me out when I have trouble with difficult assignments, and my professors are mostly understanding when it comes to assignment deadline extensions if I need them.
5. Why should new students choose AUPP?
AUPP has a friendly community, and it is not hard to make friends. In addition to this, the professors in ITM are incredibly helpful with finding internships based on students’ strengths and are willing to go the extra mile to see you succeed.
