English Preparatory Program

Many students do not have the English skills required to participate in a rigorous college level study program based in the English language.  The English Preparatory Program (EPP) is designed to provide an intensive English study program that will immerse the student in learning and improving their English language skills.

There are three components to the three-level English preparatory program, integrated skills, soft skills development and individualized learning.

Level 1

Level 1 is designed for students with an IELTS score of approximately 2.0–3.0 (CEFR A1) who are beginning to build the English skills needed for success at AUPP. The course focuses on developing a strong foundation in everyday English through listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities. Students learn common vocabulary, basic grammar, and practical communication skills that help them understand and use English in daily situations. With a supportive and interactive learning environment, students gain confidence in using English while preparing for the language demands of EPP Level 2.

Level 2

Level 2 is designed for students with an IELTS score of approximately 3.5–4.5 (CEFR A2) who are building the English skills needed to succeed at AUPP’s English-medium university environment. Through integrated speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities, students develop practical English for everyday communication, academic study, and campus life. The course also strengthens essential skills such as teamwork, critical thinking, problem-solving, and presentations while providing individualized support to help students gain confidence, improve fluency, and prepare for success in higher levels of study.

Level 3

Level 3 is designed for students with an IELTS score of approximately 4.5–5.0 (CEFR B1) who are preparing to meet the academic expectations of their future degree programs at AUPP. Building on everyday communication skills, this course emphasizes academic reading, writing, speaking, and research through project-based learning activities connected to real-world and discipline-specific topics. Students develop the language, critical thinking, collaboration, and presentation skills needed for university coursework while gaining experience using English in ways that reflect the demands of their chosen majors. Individualized support helps students strengthen key academic skills and prepare for success in higher-level study.

Level 4

Level 4 is designed for students with an IELTS score of approximately 5.0–5.5 (CEFR B2) and serves as the final step in preparing students for success in AUPP’s Freshman foundation classes. The course combines integrated language skills, soft skills development, and individualized learning to strengthen the academic English required for university study. Students continue to develop fluency while expanding their academic vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, speaking, and presentation skills in both academic and professional contexts. Through projects, discussions, and collaborative learning activities, students build critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills essential for university success. Individualized support allows students to focus on specific areas for improvement, ensuring they are prepared to transition confidently into freshman-level coursework in an English-medium environment.
