Instructor of Khmer Language for Professional Purposes

Description:

We are searching for an Instructor for a new 300-level General Education course, “Introduction to Khmer Language for Professional Purposes.” The interdisciplinary course covers Khmer language and protocols in the areas of law, business, economics, politics and international relations, governance, public administration and media communications. Through a series of assignments, practical activities, and immersion experiences, students will be introduced to formal Khmer through reading, writing, speaking, role play, and site visits to the vocabulary and protocol necessary for preparation into the professional world of Cambodia.

The effectiveness of the course will depend upon immersion activities in the form of site visits, for observation and real-life practice in using newly acquired skills in language and presentation. Some possible site visits include Parliament/Council of Ministers; the Legal Documentation Center/ECCC Resource Center, and the Sosoro Museum of Economy and Money, and other contexts where students have opportunity to hear, understand, respond to and rehearse their Khmer language skills. 

Responsibilities are as follows:

Teach one section (3 credit hours/45 hours) of “Introduction to Khmer Language for Professional Purposes.” 
Plan and create interactive and engaging lectures, in-class discussions, site visits and other appropriate activities and assignments.
Grade student assignment and provide timely and constructive feedback.
Assess students’ overall performance based on their attendance, participation in class/performance on course assignments, and examinations.
Report results, post assignments and notices, and make full use of Canvas as the Learning Management System for student communication.

Qualifications:

Eligible candidates must have a Master’s degree or PhD in an appropriate discipline (Khmer literature and languages; linguistics; etc.).
Minimum three years’ teaching or related experience with online teaching/in person teaching experience. 
Fluency in spoken and written Khmer and English. 
Personal experience working with protocol in various sectors (government, law, business, etc.) in Cambodia. 
Proficient Learning Management System (Canvas) or similar technology skills.
Candidates able to teach related courses in English or Khmer (Khmer literature, history and film, Cambodian governance, etc.) are especially encouraged to apply.
